The Biggest California Cities

California is a state that spans nearly 900 miles from the Mexican border to the Pacific Ocean. The state has a variety of terrain, including cliff-side beaches, redwood forests, the Sierra Nevada Mountains, farmland, and the Mojave Desert. Some of the largest cities in the state are Los Angeles, the entertainment capital of the world, and San Francisco, home to the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and cable cars.

Los Angeles, the largest city in California and the most populous in the US, is home to the state’s film industry, which is famous throughout the world. Los Angeles is also the largest economic center on the West Coast, and is a major center of international trade. It is home to many world-renowned institutions, including the Getty Center and the Academy Awards. While Los Angeles will always be the state’s biggest city, other cities are gaining in popularity as they grow and become more prosperous.

The state is the third-largest by area, and is the most populous. It is divided into 58 counties and has 482 municipalities. Most California cities are governed under a mayor-council or council-manager system. The councils of most of the state’s largest cities are made up of between five and fifteen members. Governors oversee city departments and oversee the finances of each county.
